This model represents the SP GP9Es that were rebuilt under the R8 program, and were equipped with Farr air filter boxes.
This is a rather amazing unit. The exterior features gobs of SP specific detail, beautiful weathering, road number specific details, and great external effects, which is par for the course with JR power. The main headlight in particular is really well done. When it is on dim, it looks very close to an actual locomotive headlight.
Where this really shines is the cab. It too is amazing. It has that feel of a classic EMD hood unit cab with the Cashbox control stand, brake stand, toadstool seats, exposed plumbing, and many other fastening details. Many of the buttons, switches and levers function. In fact, you will barely need to touch the interface. The cab is that comprehensive.
The sounds are very well done, and only serve to immerse you more. The rumble of a 567 is a wonderful thing, and this captures it very well. The horn is a classic P3, a signature SP horn.
I would recommend this unit to anyone who likes 50s-60s era Geeps, who likes SP, or someone who just appreciates a good model. All the tiny details of this unit combine into a wonderful package, indicative of classic railroading from the 60s and 70s.
My only disappointment is I wish this thing came with a manual.

This model and cab perfectly represent what SP was like circa 1965-1985. The headlight package, the factory stamp and rebuild date under the cab are very Southern Pacific specific, which makes this model outstanding! The cab is marvelous too. It makes you feel as if you’re truly driving an old geep!
My only gripe to JR is that the train brake mp3 is one sound, but some Russian content made has different lapping, release, application and emergency brake noises. If you did that with all of your train brakes JR, you’re models would be the most dynamic sounding and potentially even more would want to buy.
Sorry for the tangent. Exquisite model made buy gifted virtual modelers! Worth the buy!!!

Great model. Good for 1970’s layouts I think,and the custom cab is great. Starting the locomotive in the cab,turning on the mars/gyra light in the cab,gauge lights that you can turn on in the cab,and all the details on the model and the cab,a must buy model for sure.

Texturing is excellent, this loco makes every screenshot look like a winner

Very nice custom cab
You can open/close cab doors and lower the step platform things.
The lights look really good, The gyra light is super cool, has marker lights and working emergency lights

Cons:
Engine sound is not prototypical and notch 2 already sounds like notch 8. (Really easy fix)
Horn sounds meh(Also really easy fix)
If you open the cab door, it won’t be open in cab view.
There’s no exhaust smoke
It’s a great model if you are modeling SP branchline/local operations. Very well detailed model with a couple of minor flaws

Amazing Model! Gyralight Works, So does the emergency light! Very Nice custom Cab With loads of detail. Only thing i can complain about is the engine sound, like another user mentioned it sounded like notch 8 at notch 2. Very Good Nathan P3. 9.5/10, Keep it up JR
